Differential Diagnosis

History: Melasma is a common hyperpigmentary problem among women in child-bearing age. However, it may occur in non-married females and even in men. Four clinical patterns are usually encountered during daily dermatological practice; these include: diffuse hyperpigmentation,mask-like pigmentation, inverted U pattern, and butterfly distribution of brownish or bluish pigmentation. The present case is of an unmarried female with classical butterfly pattern of brownish pigmentation involving the center of the face especially the nasal bridge.
