Differential Diagnosis

History: The mechanism of leukonychia is still unknown. They may be due to minor trauma, systemic disease or familial tendency. The white color may represent air spaces within the nail plates. Leukonychia has no relation to calcium insufficiency. Clinically there are four patterns : Punctate leukonychia, Striate (transverse) leukonychia, Partial leukonychia and Total leukonychia.
