Differential Diagnosis

This lady had previously reacted to low molecular weight Heparin being injected subcutaneously for deep venous thrombosis prophylaxis following joint surgery.

A different type of heparin was used on this occassion but she reacted very quickly with a localised dermatitic reaction in the overlying skin at the sites of injection. Some of the vesicles have joined up to form blisters. It responded rapidly to topical steroids and ceasing the injections.
