Midddle-aged woman who souhgt relief for chronic migraines from a traditional practitioner of Chinese medicine. Was given a session of "cupping" wherein heated glass spheres are placed on skin and remain in place due to suction. Supposedly, this draws out the "evil humors" responsible for the physical ailment. About 3 hours after the session, the patient noted circular areas of brusiing and dark red spots. The suction from the cupping procedure produced ecchymoses and purpura. The patient was reassured that this would most likely resolve without a permanent residual. By the way: her migraines perisisted!
