Differential Diagnosis

History: Bullous pemphigoid is an immunobullous disease characterised by splitting of the epidermis at the dermoepidermal junction with IgG and C3 deposited at the basement membrane. The blisters are firm, sometimes blood stained and often found in the groins or axillae. They heal without scarring. There may be a preceding phase with urticarial erythema before the blisters actually form. This is the commonest immunobullous disease in the elderly.
