Differential Diagnosis

History: An inflammatory skin disorder caused by Malassezia yeasts, that typically manifests as a pruritic, follicular papulopustular eruption distributed on the upper trunk of young to middle-aged adults. The disorder closely mimics acne vulgaris.  Some adolescents with recalcitrant follicular pustules or papules may have acne and Pityrosporum folliculitis simultaneously. A KOH preparation is often helpful to reach the diagnosis in suspected cases.
