Differential Diagnosis

History:

Herpes labialis is a recurrent infection caused by the herpes simples virus type 1.  The eruption of the painful vesicles is usually preceded by a prodrome of pain, burning, tingling, or itching.  Recurrences are often associated with a variety of febrile illnesses, local trauma, sun exposure, and menstruation.
