Differential Diagnosis

History:

Hidradenitis suppurativa was first described by Velpeau in 1839. It is characterized by swollen, painful, inflamed lesions in the axillae, groin, and other parts of the body that contain apocrine glands.  When the patients with hidradenitis suppurativa present with associated acne vulgaris, pilonidal cysts, and chronic scalp folliculitis; the condition is termed as follicular occlusion tetrad.
