History: Varicose eczema is a common and disabling condition in the elderly. It begins with incompetent varicose veins with edema of the feet. This leads to leakage of small amounts of blood through the vessels with brownish hemosiderin (iron) deposition in the skin.Scratching often leads to ulceration as in this case.
