History: Ecthyma is an ulcerative pyoderma of the skin caused by group A beta-hemolytic streptococci. It is characterized by small, purulent, shallow, punched-out ulcers with thick, brown-black crusts and surrounding erythema.  Ecthyma heals slowly and commonly produces a scar.
