History:

A 7-year-old boy presented with a single patch of non-cicatricial alopecia on the scalp of three months duration. The boy gave history of playing with a domestic cat. The patch of hair loss has slowly enlarged peripherally and possessed scaly surface. The hairs at the periphery of the patch were lusterless and easily and painlessly pulled out. Some fallen hairs were directly examined under the light microscope showed positive results for fungal infection. The patient was diagnosed as a gray patch tinea capitis and treated with oral griseofulvin 10 mg/ kg/ day for 6 weeks.
