Differential Diagnosis

History: Eythema gyratum repens is one of the annular erythemas but it has a sinister significance. The lesions are seen in association with internal malignancy particularly carcinoma of the lung and breast but also in leukaemias which was the cause in this particular lady.Note the rapidly expanding concentric rings sometimes with a trailing scale. The rash may clear if the carcinoma is removed. It is stated that the rash can precede the diagnosis of the carcinoma but in my experience it is a late phenomenon when the person is dying from their illness.
