History: The Staph Scalded Skin Syndrome occurs when a person is infected by a particular toxin producing strain of staphylococcus aureus.It typically occurs like this in neonates.It comes on quickly with fever,skin redness and tenderness particularly in the groins and other flexures before rapidly spreading elsewhere. The source of infection is an improperly cared for umbilical stump.In an adult renal failure or immunosupression are commonly seen.The skin separates in sheets high up just below the granular layer of the epidermis.Healing occurs without scarring.
