History:

 

Case of Dr M Bortolo

45 year old female, healthy, presented with these lines on her nails. They had been present for around 8 weeks. No history of major illness in the past 6 months. No medications. Review of symptoms did not reveal any abnormality other than heavy menstrual cycle over the last 6 months.


Bloodwork was normal outside of a hemoglobin of 119 with microcytosis and ferritin < 5. elevated reticulocyte count. Nil otherwise.
Chest x-ray negative.

Follow Up
muehrcke's lines related to iron deficiency secondary to mennorhagia.
Patient had an ultrasound showing fibroids and referred to Ob/Gyn for definitive management (hysterectomy).
