History:

Patient of Dr

This 30 's fellow came with a history of persisting, worsening rash over his knee , not responding to moisturisers, aloe vera...and on questioning relates that he has continued to wear the neoprene knee brace which he recently purchased.
It must have been very supportive as the rash became increasingly florid.

The PM's PET dx was contact/irritant eczema--red scaly , fissured .
the distribution matched the brace exactly.....

Treatment-- was the obvious---stop the brace , topica/ steroids....it began clearing nicely over the next few days.

Case Comments
Neoprene allergy is not common. I have seen it before with a wet suit allegy. It may be an allergy to a thiourea compound which is a rubber accelerator used in the manufacture of various synthetic rubbers but it can be to other compounds. I have put up an article from Skin and Aging that describes a case in a dancer's shoes with a neoprene insert.
