Differential Diagnosis

History:

Argyria is due to the deposition of silver salts in the skin. People may ingest colloidal silver in excessive quantities in the belief it will help them medically. Instead it leads to a blue grey discoloration of the skin , sclerae, gums and particularly in areas of skin exposed to the sun.

The image shown shows the discoloration of the sclera but note the background skin color which is also blue grey. These changes may be permanent.
