History:

Pressure ulcer or the decubitus ulcer is caused by repeated pressure against a surface including mattress, wheelchair, pad or a bed rail.  Pressure leading to ischemia is the cause.  Neurologically impaired persons are at the greatest risk of developing  presure ulcers over the bony prominences that are subjected to repeated pressure subsequently causing ichemia, necrosis and ulceration of the overlying skin and the subcutaneous tissues.
