History: Nevus flammeus(NF) or portwine stain is the most common congenital malformation of the superficial dermal blood vessels.  The lesions are usually unilateral and present at birth.  Head and neck are the most frequently involved sites followed by upper trunk.  Glaucoma occurs in approximately 10% of patients with facial NF especially when the skin supplied by both the ophthalmic and the maxillary divisions of the trigeminal nerve is involved.  NF or portwine stain may be one of a group of symptoms and signs in which case it is considered to be part of a syndrome such as Sturge-Weber syndrome or Klippel-Trenaunay-Weber syndrome.
