Differential Diagnosis

History:

This adolescent girl presented with a large dark brown plaque involving most of the forehead,
and the frontal scalp since birth.   The pebbly surfaced plaque was covered with thick terminal hairs.
Congenital hairy nevi , also known as congenital nevomelanocytic nevi, are usually noted at birth or
soon thereafter. Only 5% of the lesions are multiple but the location  and size of  a congenital hairy
nevus may be variable.  There is a significant potential for large congenital hairy nevi to become
malignant.
