History: Poikiloderma of Civatte (PC) is a rather common, benign skin condition of obscure etiopathogenesis.  Cumulative exposure to UV radiation, hormonal changes associated with the menopause, and photo-allergic mechanisms have been implicated.  The condition is chracterized by erythema associated with a mottled pigmentation seen on the sides of the neck, more commonly in women. Symmetry and sparing of the anatomically shaded areas of the neck are highly characteristic for PC.  Effective treatment of poikiloderma of Civatte is difficult. The ideal treatment combines elimination of both the vascular and pigmented components simultaneously. Several treatment modalities, based on the theory of selective photothermolysis, including argon lasers, KTP lasers, pulsed dye lasers, and intense pulsed light devices, have been used to treat this condition.
