Differential Diagnosis

History:

Senile purpura or actinic purpura was first described by Bateman in 1818.  It is a disorder affecting older patients, particularly those who have had excessive sun exposure. It is characterized by ecchymoses on the extensor surfaces of the forearms and the dorsa of the hands that usually last 1-3 weeks.
